F.A.Q.
Q:How do i play a network game?
Answer (create):
Click the rotating planet choose "Create Net Game" option
Choose IPX for LAN (if installed) or TCP/IP (most likely)
Wait for others (better talk with them before) to join your game
If your IP is routed to internet, game will be visible to internet also
Choose options, wait a bit for them to propagate to clients, then start game
If game stalls/crashes press F4 - to disconect
Answer (Join):
basically same steps as above but you first must edit the he_servers.txt file
in the \bin folder and add the IP of the server (guy who created the game) in the list.
The first commented line in the file is required! Get the IP via chat, email, phone or ICQ/AIM/etc.
After the click on the TCP/IP box choose the IP of the server from the listbox on the right.
Internet play is still experimental... so take care
Q: Will there be a Linux or Unix version?
A:YES
We will sure make a FreeBSD and a Linux version
after the Windows version is ready
However first Unix versions will run only on Intel(c) architecture
Why all in ASM?
This is a complex matter of oppinion.
Here are some of my arguments IMHO:
- We know ASM well. ASM is also very easy to learn
- Speed is of the essence in GAMES.
ASM is 100% up to 300% faster than today "optimized" compilers
- There will allways be ASM code in a GAME so: Why NOT write all in ASM?
- ASM is free, cant tell that about Most HLL Compilers
- We dont like BLOATWARE generated by most of today HLL compilers
- Very good tutorials at Iczelion's site and web support from Hiroshimator's
Win32ASM messageboard make the difference
- A Game req. maximum control over the hardware and software
- ASM gives total power and maximum flexibility
- It is FUN!
What are the NEW things in this game?
Here are some of them (not all curently implemented):
- 4 Very Diferent and yet fine BALANCED RACES (5 latter on).
When you will switch to a new race you will think you are playing a NEW game!.
Actually there are almost 4 games in a single one!
- Active Particles, particles that actually mean something
to the game tactics/strategy ... not just GFX
- 256 levels of terrain altitude with True Line of Sight
- Replay feature that shows the exact enemy moves, where he looks, mouse moves and clicks...
there are no more secret tactics or strategies. After game you can study and learn from the masters.
- Better Expert AI. We will also try to use a Neural Net
for a competitive Computer Opponent
Alpha Blending GFX on every plathform with or without 3D acceleration
Abilities to have High Level Language Programable UNITS behaviour
Original Story
NEW Tactics and ways of attack/defence
NEW Ways to build bases/secure areas
NEW Original TECH TREE
High Network SPEED up to 12 players
later versions will work on Linux(c) and FreeBSD(c)
Will it work on Laptops?
Yes.
What is the minimum recomended machine for normal play?
This is subject to everyday changes...but curently:
Normal play:
- P3/P4 at 700Mhz - 1300Mhz
- 256Mbytes RAM
- 16Megabytes video board
- 500M free space on HDD
Minimum requirements:
- P2 at 400Mhz
- 64M RAM
- 4M video board
- 300M free space on HDD
Are there 2 versions? Low and High?
Not anymore. There used to be but game was optimised so much that it is not necessary anymore.
